Too many coats of acrylic finish on a
floor can cause certain problems. A continual build-up
of acrylic on the floor (10 or more coats) can:
- produce excessive difficulties in stripping in that
several applications of stripper may be necessary to remove
all finish coats. This is very labor intensive.
- produce a lamination, which has a tendency to rupture,
chip, or crack under foot. This is especially true with
ladies high heels. Shopping carts, dollies, and heavy
items dropped on the floor can cause chipping and unrepairable
indentations in the finish.
- discolor quicker due to trapped aged coats which will
generally darken through time.
The use of a mop-on restorer on a regular basis, as opposed
to recoating, would prevent all of the above.
